Start with a square piece of paper. Fold each corner to corner, and unfold again, creating an X on the paper.
Then fold the square into thirds, all creases should fold the same way - inwards to the centre.
Do this along both edges, so you have 9 squares folded in to the paper all together.
Turn the paper over, and starting with the bottom right hand corner, fold the point towards the opposite corner, and crease only the right hand square, rather than the whole length. You are aiming to put a crease diagonally across the bottom middle 'square' only.
Continue to work your way around the square, creasing all four bottom squares.
Turn it back over. Now you should have the original creases folding inwards, and the new middle creases folding outwards. Gently fold the middle creases in to the centre, whilst folding the corners in half. You should then end up with a windmill shape.
Fold the outer points on each side in to the middle, and finally tuck the last point in to the pocket! You can decorate it after its folded, or before! I painted mine first with gouache paint. I made a mock up first, so that I knew where to paint, so that it worked when it folded!
Now you are ready to write a hidden message inside, or pop some pressed flowers in and make someone smile!
